requesting advice after 2 pregnancy lossesFrom: caroline (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 28 Dec 1998 09:19:27 -0600 (CST)
I am a 40 year old healthy woman and have lost 2 pregnancies in the past five months. I am looking for some direction on tests that can help to evaluate the cause. In early July I had a miscarriage at 7 weeks - I was told by my ob/gyn that this was a blighten ovum. Prior to the miscarriage, I had had bleeding for about 2 weeks and monitoring of my beta levels showed them not to be increasing properly. I became pregnant in August and things seemed to be progressing normally. At about 8 weeks I had a bleeding incident which was diagnosed as subchorionic hemorrhage. The bleeding stopped and ultrasounds showed no problems and a very active normally sized baby. At fifteen weeks I felt some leakage which I thought was incontinence but which I now believe was rupture of the membranes. Went to my ob/gyn who determined that I had a vaginal infection (bacterial) and put me on Flagyl. Several days later I experienced bleeding - went to the emergency room where I was told that my cervix was closed and a heartbeat was detected. Continued bleeding - had a visit with my doctor where the cervix was still closed and a heartbeat was still present. A week later went in for my amnio - during the pre-amnio ultrasound it was found that I had little or no amniotic fluid and was told that the baby would not survive at 17 weeks. On the doctor's recommendation, and after numerous evaluations from a referral, I had a D&E three days later. Followng the D&E the doctor told me he felt irregularities and thought I should be evaluated for fibroids, which could have caused the PROM. Sorry for the length of this - I wanted you to have all information that might be helpful. Thanks so very much for any help - We very much want a baby but I have obvious concerns about another pregnancy.
