Re: Fetal HeadFrom: art fougner, md (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 17 Dec 1998 09:57:55 -0600 (CST)
hi if i might interject - the fetus in question seems to exhibit mild ventriculomegaly. 10/11 mm was chosen as the upper limit based on the old 2 std deviations above the mean by roy filly's group in san francisco. the outcome of stable mild ventriculomegaly is usually ( but not always) good. when identified, there needs to be a search for other anomalies which would suggest an increased risk for abnormal karyotype, serologic testing for infections such as CMV, and serial studies to look for progression. genetic counseling as well as pediatric follow-up is strongly advised. if you have any questions, please discuss this with your obstetrician. i do hope this helps and good luck. a Merry and a Happy
