There are 2 methods of doing the CVS. Abdominally and vaginally. I can only speak about the vaginal route. I would not call it painful (and I am a wimp) but it was uncomfortable. It felt like a pinchy sensation as probe that was to retrieve sample was threaded through the cervix. I would not call it painful. It didn't take long to do the process. I know someone else who had CVS done abdominally and it was no more uncomfortable than an amnio.
