Re: ultrasound questionsFrom: Dr. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 14 Dec 1998 16:59:39 -0600 (CST)
I was told that I have an BPP of 8 and a defect free >anterior placenta, grade 1. Dear ejensen A BPP is a probably a Biophysical profile, a method of scoring fetal wellbeing. it is popular in some places and no longer used in others. 8 or 10 out of 10 is fine so long as you have only dropped 2 points for amniotic fluid volume. The grade 1 part could be either referring to the Grannum grading of placental appearance, which was thought to reflect placental function but is now thought not to be useful or to the postion of the placenta in relation to the "way out" i.e it could be a little close to the cervix. Ask your Ob what he thinks they mean. Abbreviations are always open to misinterpretation but we are all caught out using them!
