Re: air travel during last monthFrom: Becky (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 10 Nov 1998 01:02:06 -0600 (CST)
I flew in the 34th/35th week or so with my last baby. I called the airline to find out their policy, and they said as long as I wasn't in labor, I could get on the plane! I don't think there's any risk in modern planes. The only real concern, as I saw it, was the possibility of going into labor early naturally. Most labors are too slow for you to be likely to not make it to your destination on a short flight (you might go into labor by coincidence, but it'd be unlikely for you to have the baby that fast). Still, you could end up being in labor in a strange place, delivering in a strange hospital -- possibly without anyone you know around, and then have to deal with bringing a newborn back home on a plane. Oh, it wasn't fun when my plane ran VERY late on the way back and I had to run the entire length of Houston International while carrying many pounds of computer equipment to catch my flight home. I made it just in time for last call! Whew!
