Uterine Prolapse/pessaryFrom: Vicki (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 7 Nov 1998 14:50:12 -0600 (CST)
Dear Doctor, I am in the 34th week of my (third) pregnanacy and have a number of problems. I hope that it would be possible for you to help me overcome my fears and anxieties. I am a mother of two boys - the older one is 3 1/2 years old and the second one is 2 1/2 years old. Both deliveries were normal vaginal deliveries. Before I got pregnant for the third time I was to have an operation to fix my uterus. But I found out I was pregnant 5 weeks before I was due to have the operation. Which is fine, both my husband and I wanted a third child anyway. My gene inserted a pessary into my vagina when I was 11 weeks pregnant. I have not developed any infections against it. But the last time I was at the gene he told me that my cervix is shortened to about 1 cm. He recommends alot of bed rest to carry on with the pregnancy. But my greatest fear right now is what will happen to me now when I deliver the baby in a normal way i.e. the condition of my uterus, will I be able to function normally in the weeks after the delivery? Thank you for your time.
