Blow to the PelvisFrom: lauren (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 27 Oct 1998 09:24:29 -0600 (CST)
My 19 month old son hit me in the lower pelvis while he was playing with me. I was lying on my back, and he whacked me below my belly button, above my pubic bone. The blow startled me but did not hurt beyond the moment it was struck. I am 9 1/2 weeks LMP and worried that he might have done damage to my pregnancy (I've read that stomach trauma could lead to an abrupted placenta). To make myself feel better, I looked up pictures of the pregnant anatomy, and to my relief, it looks to me like the uterus is very cushioned with other organs (like the bladder maybe and the intestines?) at this point in the pregnancy. Is this true? I have had no bleeding or cramping. Can a doctor please tell me whether the blow of a 19 month old, 22 pound baby could damage a pregnancy? I have an OB appointment in three days. Can I wait until then? Am I worrying about nothing?
