Vaginal delivery after anal sphincter reconstructionFrom: De (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 16 Oct 1998 11:58:50 -0500 (CDT)
My 1st child was 5 weeks preemie. My 2nd child was term, delivered by high forceps resulting in a 3rd degree tear to me and 7th nerve facial palsy to her. 10 days post partum is when I discovered I had no anal control. (I had already noticed the problem with flatulence, but pushed it aside until the discovery of no fecal control.) At 7 weeks post partum I had reconstruction of the anal sphincter and posterior repair. My OB at that time told me that if we had a 3rd child, it would need to be delivered by c-section to insure not permanently re-injuring the site. I am now 33 weeks pregnant in another state. It has been 3 years since the surgery. I have almost 100% control over bowel and about 75% control over flatulence. I feel that my current OB's have not thoroughly read my history and they are not listening to our concerns about re-injury. Any information about possible complications would be appreciated. Thank you.
