They were advised to leave the house in the earlier stages of labor (Her previous pregnancy had a labor from beginning to delivery of less than 3 hours) - in addition they were instructed to keep a bag in the car with a blanket and several towels - just in case. If it's affordable I think the hotel idea is the best idea - if not, then maybe some good basic emergency first aid information for keeping mother and baby safe until either paramedics arrive or the hospital is reached.
