Dear Elizabeth Mag Sulp is undoubtably the drug of choice for a patient who is either eclamptic or thought to be imminently eclamptic. This has been established by properly conducted randomised controlled studies (RCTs). The role of Mag Sulp in preventing seizures is less well established but there are reasonably sized RCTs saying it is efficacious. The Magpie study just getting underway in the UK is setting out to finally answer this. There are no other established preventative therapies that I know. I'm not sure what medicines you mean by "muscle relaxers". Perhaps the doctors involved have new data to support their approach?
