Low hCG levels but fetal heartbeat?From: Nancy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 29 Sep 1998 21:54:06 -0500 (CDT)
Last week, at 6.5 weeks from LMP, my doctor suspected a miscarriage as my hCG levels plateaued (1335 to 1338 over 48 hours and then 1746 in another 48 hours--far from the expected 48-hour doubling). However, today a fetal heartbeat was found in a sonogram! Is it possible for an embryo to survive and develop normally without the appropriate rises in hCG? (Note also that fetal measurements are small for 6.5 wks and fetal heartbeat was only 83. They suspect I am only 5 weeks pregnant.) Thank you kindly for your thoughts on the manner.
