Both you and your baby will benefit greatly from breastfeeding - it is such an awesome experience! Although it is a natural way to provide nourishment for your child, it can be difficult so be sure to have a good support system in place before your baby is born. Hopefully you won't need it, but if you do, you won't have to start looking at the last minute. As to birth control options, there are so many choices it can be difficult to choose. The first thing to do is look at your personal circumstances. Do you want to have another child within a year or two after your first? Before becoming pregnant, were your cycles regular? Do you have any conditions that may rule out a particular BC option? For example, if you have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (a symptom of which is elevated androgens - male hormones) you may not want to choose the mini-pill, Depo or Norplant because of the added androgens (docs, correct me if I am wrong). If you are planning another baby shortly after the first, the Depo-Provera injection *may* cause a delayed return of fertility. Be sure to reasearch these thoroughly as you may not have adequate time at your postpartum checkup to discuss the pros and cons of each method. Thanks for posting your questions to the Pregnancy & Birth forum! Be sure to write again when you have questions :) If you would like to share your baby's birth story with us, email it to me with photos if you like and I will feature it on the Pregnancy & Birth homepage. Best wishes for labor beginning on or just prior to your *due* date, a joyous birth and a healthy Mom and Baby!!
