fluid intake while pregnantFrom: steph (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 16 Sep 1998 08:00:14 -0500 (CDT)
I am now about 10/11 weeks pregnant and have been pretty sick for most of it. For a while I couldn't even keep fluids down. That has stopped, but it is difficult for me to drink as much as I am supposed to. Small sips work best, but by the end of the day it isn't very much. My doctor suggested I drink 1 liter of water since it is only 4 cups, and then supplement with ice chips, italian ice, basically anything that turns to fluid once consumed. Well, I haven't been able to even take in that much because I get too nausious and don't want to vomit. Can this really cause harm this early? What if I can't increase my fluids until after this is over- presumable 2-4 weeks? I know i am at least slightly dehydrated because my mouth feels "dry" and I am not urinating as much as I had been. Could trying to eat fruit offset this since fruit has a pretty high water content? I am willing to try anything. Thanks so much for your help. I really do appreciate it!
