chromosome analysis after D&CFrom: Mandy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 30 Sep 2003 19:37:02 -0500 (CDT)
Hello; I am on my second pregnancy after a loss at 21 weeks to Turner Syndrome. On this pregnancy,my first scan at 7 wks. revealed a twin pregnancy with one empty sac and another larger sac with yolk sac and fetal pole. Subsequent scans have revealed no heartbeat and the formation of another ring in addition to the yolk sac and fetal pole, which my doctor has no idea what it is. I am now at 11 weeks and have begun bleeding. I am trying to decide between having a D&C to get a better chromosomal analysis, leaving no remains to bury, or burying the remains after I miscarry naturally. My questions are: If I have the D&C, could the chromosome analysis tell the sex of the children, or is there not enough genetic material? Could the embryos have stopped developing for too long (necrotic) to get a analysis? How long can I safely wait to miscarry before having D&C? Any info would help me to make this decision and be much appreciated.
