Re: Late periodFrom: elaine (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 30 Sep 2003 17:55:26 -0500 (CDT)
An anovulatory cycle means you did not ovulate. Clearly if this happened again it would prevent conception. I currently am facing this - my doctor has started treating it with progestin supplements the first 10 days of each month. I'm not far enough along to know if I will need the next step, whatever it should be (clomid I believe). That said, my doctor only started treatment when (1) I had several long cycles followed by short cycles (38 days, then 18 days, then 36 days and so on) and (2) then went almost two full months without a period at all. I wouldn't think a single long cycle like your case would be much to worry about though, especially since you are regular. However, if it happens again next month and you are actively trying to conceive, go ahead and call your doctor. I wish I had called mine sooner! :-) If you want to really keep an eye on it, you may want to try charting your basal body temperature. Check the archives here or visit fertilityfriend.com for more info on that. That will help determine when/if you ovulate pretty precisely (at least it does for most women). Good luck and baby dust wishes!
