Alternative birth controlFrom: Brandy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 6 Sep 2003 17:13:18 -0500 (CDT)
I'm a 21 year old healthy university student who is over weight. I have been on the birth control pill and i am unable to take it because it causes plhebitis in my legs. My doctor recommended me to use depo provera as an alternative method of birth control. I am afraid of it because it is a somewhat new product out on the market. I was researching side affects online and found a site on the horror stories of this medicine and it seems to be destroying people's lives. SOme people gain like 50 pounds, think about commiting suicide and are unable to eat certain foods along with developing diseases such as fybermyalia-now my question is after reading those sites-is it really safe? what is the percentage rate of it happening to me? and could i choose to take only one shot for three months wait three months and take another so it doesn't build up in my system. It seems as though the people who can't eat food was because they had an allergic reaction to the food which they claim was brought on by taking the pill-i'm a person with a servere food allergy and i want to know if that puts me at greater risk when i take the shot because i already have allergies-wow confusing eh? what does anyone think about this-i'm confused and need help!! PLEASE -Brandy
