I just went to my 36 week appt today and was dilated to 1cm. It's pretty normal to be dilated at this point a little bit or for some women not at all. The exam shouldn't cause you to go into labor, however it may cause a little spotting so don't be worried if you see a little bit of blood. By the way, just to ease your mind, I was dilated to 1 cm for the whole last month of my previous pregnancy. It wasn't until I went in for a non-stress test that looked odd to the technician caused her to send me to L&D that I discoverd I was more. Also, according to my doctor, at this point if you go into labor, they won't stop it becuase your baby is fully developed in most cases. Babies are considered full-term at 36 or 37 weeks. Good Luck!
