There is a lot of pressure on me since I am forty to get amniocentesis. For example, the ob.gyn I discussed it with said I need to be checked for "Down's, Tay Sachs disease, spina bifida, cystic fibrosis and sickle cell anemia." Later I read in March of Dimes site that sickle cell and Tay Sachs are strongly tied to ethnic groups that I am not in. The site also detailed that a lot of kids who have these disorders don't seem to do so badly. What nobody says but that I am hearing is that I had better have amnio so that I can have an abortion if there is something wrong on the results. Or is there another good reason to have it? Because to me that is not a good reason, I am having this kid, and if my kid has problems I will help them. Why all this pressure? Just stressing me out.
