Dear Glenda,

I just wanted to let you know that I was very tired for the majority of my pregnancy. It was very difficult for me to accept because I am normally a very energetic person, and it was disturbing that my professional goals were not being fulfilled.

So, 2 things:

1. You WILL return to your prepregnancy energy levels once the baby is born. It's only 6-10 more weeks.

2. Perhaps your body is trying to tell you something. As it turned out, I had a serious pregnancy complications unknown to either me or my doc until the day before labor. I had to have an emergency induction to get the baby out of me ASAP. Reading about my condition (oligohydramnios + IUGR) later, I realized that the only known working cure is bedrest. I saw in your previous message that you needed medical help getting pregnant. Maybe your body is just working overtime building the baby, and needs you to help by resting a lot. I am not saying run to the doctor and be tested for everything under the sun. But consider listening to your body.

3. Looking at your diet is a good idea, but adding caffeine is not. It messes with the baby's heartrate. Try adding a protein snack in the midmorning and midafternoon - say, peanut butter and jelly sandwich on whole grain bread + a glass of whole milk.

:)
