I experienced uterine atony during a c-section just over a year ago. (It was unusual because it was not a multiple birth and my baby was not overly large. I am not overweight and am not a smoker.) After trying all the routine meds and massage techniques, my doctors performed a B-Lynch procedure and thankfully avoided a hysterectomy. Now as I contemplate getting pregnant again, I'm wondering if there is a higher risk of complication with a second pregnancy or if the uterine atony is likely to reoccur. Have there been any statistics published on this? Dear CK, Here are some links to information I found, the reference to study is with a small number of women, so not scientifically significant, it's encouraging, needless to say, you would want to explore other causes of bleeding prior to pregnancy and be followed appropriately.
