QUESTION RE: GESTATIONAL DIABETES AND BLOOD SUGAR LEVELSFrom: Karen (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 29 Aug 2003 10:01:28 -0500 (CDT)
I am 40 and 11 weeks pregnant. I had gestational diabetes when I with my last pregnancy 12 years ago. It started when I was about 20 weeks last time. I controlled it with diet. I have been feeling more tired than usual over the last week, so I had my blood sugar tested last night. It was 199 and it had been 1 hr and 15 min since my last meal. I also had it retested (fasting) this morning and it was 130. I know that these numbers are higher than they should be, but I can't remember the target ranges were from when I went through this in my previous pregnancy. What are the optimal amounts for blood sugar levels in pregnancy? Also, I have an appointment to see my OB on Thursday next week. I don't really think that these numbers are an emergency, but I wondered if I should call him in advance or just wait to tell him at the the appointment? I assume that he will schedule a GTT fairly soon to confirm whether the diabetes is starting again. Thanks.
