21 wk loss pprom, incompetent cervix , gbs questionFrom: Roberta (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 27 Aug 2003 10:53:08 -0500 (CDT)
I lost my baby at 21 wks of a perfect pregnancy. When I arrived at the hospital 45 minutes after my water broke, I was 2 cm dilated. Testing showed both my placenta and the baby's skin had "heavy growth" for GBS. I delivered him 10 hours after ruptured membrane. The fluid had no foul odor and I did not have a fever. Current diagnosis is incompetent cervix, GBS may have caused rupture after I painlessly dilated. Contamination of placenta and baby as passed through vagina may explain "heavy growth" of GBS...although I have heard this is factored out in measurement. I plan to conceive again in the next few months...a cerclage will be done. Question: I had diarrhea several days before PPROM. I am wondering about GBS in my digestive tract. I understand that it is a normal flora here as well as the vagina. Is it possible that it passed from my blood to the placenta in this way? Maybe due to abnormal liver function?
