Pre-Term Labor ConcernsFrom: Amanda (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 27 Aug 2003 02:00:37 -0500 (CDT)
Hello! I'm 24, almost 35 weeks. history of endometriosis, fibroids and previous miscarriage. Earlier this month I was hospitalized because I couldn't hold anything down. I started having contractions then was given medications to stop contractions. I have still had contractions since, but they have not been consistant. They go anywhere from every 15-20 mins to every 5 mins apart. On Saturday I started spotting. I had not had a vaginal exam and had not had intercourse for well over a week. Sunday I only spotted a small amount in the morning. Monday night I started having alot of pelvic pressure. Today I saw my dr and told him about the spotting. He decided to do a vaginal exam to check my cervix. I have dilated to a "fingertip" (how many centimeters is this?) and that the baby's head was engaged. I was informed to go to the hospital if my contractions became more consistant or if my water broke or I thought it broke. My son is 7 years old, so I feel like I'm starting over and dont' remember much from when I had him. I've been having more pelvic pressure tonight along with vaginal pain described as a tearing sensation.. I've also had lower back pain. I'm not sure if this is something that I should bug my dr about, or if I should just wait it out and see if the contractions come more consistantly. Labor with my first child lasted 11 hours from the time that my water broke (before I even felt the contractions). Should I call my dr about the new symptoms, or just chalk it up to being in late pregnancy? My first child was not pre-term. Thanks for any help or advice you can give.
