17 weeks pregnant. Problems when taking out blood for blood test. Should I be worried about this? From: anonymous@obgyn.netSat, 23 Aug 2003 11:50:37 -0500 (CDT)
On Monday morning I had gone for a blood test. At the lab,the first person tried to take out blood at this odd place (on the inner upper right arm) but was not successful. She could see the blood in one or two drop but couldn't get it out???? Since she did not look like she knew what she was doing, I requested another person. The blood was taken fine from the other arm by the second person. But this first one is not going away. Earlier that area was just blackish blue for about 1sq.cm area where the needle was inserted. But since yesterday it has become red is about 2 - 2.5 cms now. Compared to yesterday today the area may have increased a bit more. Is that some sort of a blood clot or something? Should I be worried about it? I am 17 weeks pregnant. Could this be any sort of infection in the blood and cause harm to my baby? I have another blood test to take today. And since it's the weekend, I can't call the doctor's office. Should I speak with the answering service of the doctor? Will they be able to help? Please advise I am really worried.
