Hi - I am the one who posted the original question. The good news is that in the end I did find an excellent OB practitioner with a liberal attitude towards patient's choice/elective c-section. The bad news is that it was quite difficult, took a long time (almost 6 weeks of persistent searching) and I cannot post the contact info for this practice here because I'm afraid to expose them to irrational attacks. For those of you who are still looking, here's the procedure that worked for me: go out to the Internet, find articles discussing the ever-increasing popularity of the elective c-section, make a note of recurring names of practitioners with good credentials who expressed support for this practice, contact them directly and beg for referrals of someone in your area. Be persistent - it will take a lot more than a phone call or two! ;-)

What turned out to be a complete waste of time was trying to get referrals from people I knew who were either new moms themselves or had a recent experience with newborns in their families. It was very nerve-wracking to be lectured about how selfish/uncaring/unethical/unfit mother I would be (only because after thoroughly researching this issue I arrived at the conclusion that a c-section is the better option for me and my baby) by people who in the end turned out to have frighteningly little knowledge about the subject, but no shortage of strong opinions. Don't go there, it will make your morning sickness a LOT worse! If the route I've described above seems to cumbersome, your best bet is probably to contact the most reputable hospital in your area, preferably affiliated with a major educational institution, get a list of their practicing faculty members, pick a couple of the most senior, accomplished ones and start making appointments. Hate to stereotype anyone, but in my experience the person most likely to be open minded is someone who has been in this field for a very long time, and male. Best of luck!
