Re: Tylenol 2 in the third TrimesterFrom: Glenda (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 10 Aug 2003 15:19:07 -0500 (CDT)
WOW! That's a little scary. THIS IS JUST MY OPINION: I doubt her doctor would've prescribed anything that could've seriously harmed her child. The usage is what may do it. I have a prescription for Tylenol 2 myself (after having cerclage surgery). I only took it the first day when absolutely necessary. As with ANY drug (even regular tylenol) taking too much or abuse of the drug could cause problems. In my firt trimester I had a back injury and freaked when they injected me with demerol. everything is fine now (29 weeks) but the doc explained to me that taking certain narcotic/pain killers has a greater effect in the third trimester where the baby could be born addicted (which is why they don't like to give IV pain killers in labor and prefer giving epidurals). What concerns me is the enlarged head (does the child have a condition like hydroencephylitis?) Also, some children develop at their own rate as far as walking and speaking go (for many different reasons - socialization, parental guidance, communication needs). Our nephew speaks with a lisp when around his mom but around us speaks normally (he gets lazy speak at home). What you hear may only be the minimum of what she says and she may speak more at home. If the mom isn't concerned then I wouldn't worry about it. If she thought it was the drugs I think she'd be more concerned.
