Re: When to testFrom: Aimee (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 9 Aug 2003 21:04:43 -0500 (CDT)
My periods were irregular and we found out one of the reasons we were having problems getting pregnant was that I was ovulating only a week after the first day of my period, even though everything we read said I should be ovulating about 12 - 14 days afterwards. If you don't mind spending the extra money, get 2 or 3 test kits (we used "Answer" which is really cheap ~ about $10 a kit ~ at Walmart) and continue using them until you get a positive result. Depending on how long your cycle is, I would start testing around the same time as we did (8 days after the first day of your period) since everyone is different. Your tummy will be very warm to the touch during ovulation and your discharge will look like egg whites. Another suggestion that I think really helped us conceive is to make sure you orgasm AFTER he does. Your muscle contractions help carry the sperm. Have as much sex as you can tolerate while you're ovulating (you only have about a 24 hour window) and don't lubricate yourselves with your saliva. Saliva kills sperm. Once we found these things out (along with my ovulation cycle), we were pregnant within a month. Yes, you still have to wait until around the time your period is supposed to arrive to get a positive result from a home pregnancy test. However, blood tests at your doctor's office can get a positive result within a week after conception. Good luck!!! Aimee
