Sonnet,

With my first child, my doctor stripped mine at 38 weeks, again at 38 1/2 weeks, and 39 weeks. I don't know if it's supposed to be a one time shot or not, and I've also been told by both my doctors that my cervix is really hard to reach, so perhaps that's why it didn't work well. Anyhow, I gave birth 3 days after the 3rd time, so I don't know what that means. Oh, and I gave birth by cesarean after failure to progress some 8 billion hours later (ok, only like 28, but it seemed like YEARS). Good luck! I've also heard of women who had theirs stripped and delivered that day.
