Hernia, Pregnancy, Delivery

At 36 weeks my doctor diagnosed me with having a hernia. She simply poked at the incredibly large, painful lump and declared it to be a hernia. Thats as far as she went. I am almost 39 weeks. I have no idea what type of hernia. It is approximately two inches below my belly button, and extremely large(about 5 by 6 inches). Should my doctor have done more? Can it cause complications with delivery? Do I have a choice between vaginal delivery or c-section?
