Group B StrepFrom: Jennifer (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 31 Jul 2003 22:29:12 -0500 (CDT)
Hi I am a new poster here and I have a question about GBS. I was just diagnosed in my 23rd week of pregnancy of having GBS from a urine sample. I have read through the archives as well as web sites and I am still somewhat unclear on the situation. Exactly how do you get it? I have read that it is a normal bacteria that is found in up to 30% of women/men, but I do not understand how you get it. I am married and I am wondering if my husband should get tested too. I know it is not transmitted sexually, but I'm not sure how it is transmitted at all. I am currently taking Penicillin 4x a day for 10 days and the dr advised me that I will have to have the IV of antibiotics when I go into labor. I have also read that sometimes the bacteria will show up and that sometimes it will not. Is there a reason for this? My urine is tested at each visit and the GBS has not appeared any other time. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Jennifer
