About two weeks ago I found out that I was pregnant, after trying for 11 months. When I went to the doctor for my first ultrasound the doctor figured that I was about 6 1/2 weeks pregnant. Although I have a cycle every month, it is not predictable. It is sometimes within a week of when it is supposed to be but it is not the same every month. When the doctor did an internal ultrasound, she found a sac but no fetus. She seemed concerned but said that she was not convinced that it was a blighted ovum. She had me get my hcg tested on friday and then again on monday. On friday my hcg was 6200 and on monday it was 13,800. It is doubling as it should. However, the doctor didn't schedual another ultrasound for 2 weeks after the first one. I am dying in the meantime to know what is going on. Everyone that I have talked to has said that I just have to wait and find out from the next ultrasound. However, I just want some reasurrance that everything will be okay. I want to know if it is possible for the hcg levels to increase normally, still have pregnacy symptoms, and there actually not be a fetus. From everything that I have read it actually seems like a normal pregnancy but an early one. Can you give me any hope that I'm okay and that there is actually a baby there???? Please, I can't wait any longer. Also, is it good to try and move up my ultrasound b/c I can't wait or do you think that the extra week is needed for more accurate information?

Dear Haley, Wait two weeks. In early pregnancy, HCG doubles in both normal pregnancy and blighted ovum. Your levels are good and doubling, so think positive and that it is an early pregnancy. If the sac is visable now but not a fetus it could be you are <6.5weeks pregnant and the fetal poles would be visable in a few days to a week or so, waiting two weeks will eliminate doubt and possibly even detect a heartbeat answering another question.
