Hello, I am hypothyroid (used to have graves but had RAI treatment 10 months ago). Anyway, I am 7weeks pregnant and recently had my TSH level checked by both my endocinologist and primary care md. The results were different. The endo got a result of 5.5 and the primary care 7.8. Could these results be this different from different labs? Also, I am on .125 and my endo wants me to take an additional .125 a week. Where the primary care wants me to take .175 every day. What would you do? I am totally confused.

Also, I am extremely concerned about the effect of the high TSH might have already had on the baby's development especially brain development. thanks

Dear Vicki, Relax, You're treated and monitored which lowers risks. 5.5 is high end of (old)normal-range. TSH may decline as pregnancy progress until the end of the 1st-trimester, because of an interaction between HCG and TSH. HCG rises and peaks at the end of the first trimester, it surpresses TSH levels so you may even go from hypo to hyper and back, for a short time. It's possible for differences between two labs and/or because the lower TSH was from a later sample. If this is the case, you will be monitored more frequently because as second-trimester begins, HCG levels begin declining, TSH rises again, that's why the endocrinologist wants you to only increase your Rx by .125 per week to minimize big swings but get your TSH lower but not too low, adjustments are usually in small increments when you are in/near normal-range(.125/7=.017 or daily=.150 not .175 which is too much), listen to your endocrinologist.

I was stable at TSH=3.23/.075-Synthroid<TTC, I just got back my levels from 16week and TSH=1.48 I've been having hyper symptoms of heat-intolerance & palpitations which are starting to get better since that sample was taken and HCG levels-off, in a month levels will be checked again and Rx adjusted as needed.
