First of all, E. coli is a normal inhabitant of the vagina. Second of all, you can't tell it is there without a culture. Thirdly, it doesn't cause any symptoms if there. Fourthly, B.V. is not causedc by E. coli, it is caused by the normal Lactobacilli being markedly reduced in numbers allowing other Normal organisms such as Gardnerella and mobiluncus to overgrow. Ampicillin is not used to treat B.V. It is sometimes used to treat E.coli bladder infections but only after a culture, since 1/3 of all E.coli are resistant to it. You said symptoms upon wet mount. Symptoms are something that you complain of not something that is found on a wet mount. Vaginal discharge with odor would be a symptom.
