Antibiotics of choice for bacterial infection in pregnancy--please help doctor/nurse!

I am 25 wks pregnant and was diagnosed with a bacterial infection due to symptoms (non-trichamonal) upon wet mount on Monday. A culture was not sent out. The doctor said the bacteria looked somewhat like ecoli though he was not sure. He prescribed me ampicillin 4x daily for 10 days at 250 mg. I have a history of pprom and subsequent loss at 17 wks so my fears of infection are high.

When I got home, I looked up ampicillin for the treatment of bv and everything I read says that flagyl and/or clindomycin are the treatments of choice and that ampicillin is not that effective.

Since I am not a doctor, I don't have all the facts, though I wonder if I need to call him up and question the choice of medicine???? I do not want to leave bacteria around because of my history and want to knock out this infection.

Should I call him and question this or is ampicillin ok or do I maybe not have all the facts about what he saw???

Thank you,
