Delivery QuestionsFrom: Expectant (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 24 Jul 2003 16:01:57 -0500 (CDT)
With the birth of our first child I had a postpartum hemorrhage, and because of retained placenta underwent a D&C (general anesthesia). It was a difficult and frightening time for us as family. Now I am pregnant again, only 17 months later, and I am wanting to learn more about this complication. My OB has shared with me that I would be at an increased risk to have retained placenta again. What are the risk factors for retained placenta? Why does having it happen before lead to an increased chance that it will occur again? I want to be prepared and aware just in case. Professional response and personal experiences are both appreciated. Thank you for your kind response.
