No. When you first get pregnant HCG levels are detectable by bloodwork if there is ANY of the hormones present (and these hormones are always present if you are pregnant). Most HPT's measure HCG levels of about 50 or more so urine tests can throw you off a little but even a HPT would be able to detect the HCG in urine by 18 weeks. If you are trying to conceive, good luck to you. I'm not sure what you mean by "abnormal" periods but you may want to check with your doctor to be sure there is no problem. Again, good luck.
