Hi Misty,

I work in Cardiology and have seen a couple of ladies with high BP. Generally it is a good idea for your OB and Cardiologist to liase and come up with a game plan. If your BP is being controlled by the medications, then I would bet odds that it is not interferring with conception. Also Atenolol although contraversial is much safer than alot of the other medications out there to treat high BP. This is a short quote from my online drug guide..The BNF (2003)

Atenolol in pregnancy "May cause intra-uterine growth restriction, neonatal hypoglycaemia, and bradycardia; risk greater in severe hypertension".

So again if your high BP is well controlled the risks are lower..

Yes many pregnant women do take this medication, but it is safest done under the careful scrutiny of the Cardiologist and Ob..
