I posted a week ago about my wife having some bleeding the day after an ultrasound confirmed the fetus with a heartbeat. The bleeding continued through the weekend and when she went in on monday they said she'd had a complete miscarriage and wouldn't even need a dnc.

Two things concerned me. One is that they said the day before that the fetus had a good heartbeat and was in a good position. The second is that this is the second miscarriage at the exact time (9 weeks lmp).

My wife says that we should just move on and try again in a couple months but it seems strange to me that they both happened on the exact same time and that the fetus looked good.

Is there something that we should be checking on? My wife says the doctor just said that 2 m/c can happen and we should just try again. But it's almost as though she reaches a time in the pregnancy and her body wants to miscarry. Could it be a hormonal problem? Should we be pursueing this further or just let it go and try again. Since my wife is 37, we feel like each month is important.

thanks,

Dear Peter, I'm sorry for your losses, this must be very sad and frustrating at the same time. After two unexplained M/C&viable fetus, I too would be asking questions. Yes, it could be hormones of several types and/or another problem, such as antibodies, all of which should be investigated <TTC again, so that treatment if indicated can begin <TTC. Women are usually screened for thyroid problems early in pregnancy, was this done yet? TSH alone is not enough, sub-clinical hypothyroidism can lead to M/C, request a full thyroid panel and antibodies. Other antibodies can also lead to M/C. Her doctor can order tests for those as well. There's no need to wait for another M/C before looking into possible causes, it will take a couple of cycles to investigate but the wait will be worth it if there's treatment that can bring a pregnancy, full-term,
