I'm very early in pregancy still, awaiting my first ultrasound at 6.5 weeks. About one week after conception, my husband and I put down trim molding on our new pergo floor. I got wood ahesive all over my hands. I used this stuff called "Oops" which is like "goo gone" and other "goo-removers" to clean up some on the floor and also to wash my hands. I used a lot, but I did rinse it off. I'm afraid, though, that it was on my skin for a while as I worked on the floor.

The "Oops" container says it contains a chemical known to the state of California to cause birth defects.

How worrisome should this be?

I'm a nervous nellie to begin with, and I lost a pregnancy early back in February, so I'm particularly paranoid.

Any reassurance would be appreciated.

Thanks

Dear Ima, If this occured 1week post conception it is possible that implantation had not occured and you may be alright. Like with taking prenatal vitamins when TTC, avoidance hazerdeous chemicals, including washing your vegtebles to remove pesticides and other contamninants is equally important because in the first trimester there is greater risk for birth defects and before you may know you are pregnant. Here is a link and toll free number in the USA for poison control, a number that everyone should have handy. They may be able to answer your specific questions.

Find Your Poison Center. If you have a poisoning emergency, call 1-800-222-1222. There are three ways to find out about Poison Centers in your area. http://www.aapcc.org/findyour.htm

Best wishes, Marie
