Sure it should be instinctive. So should breastfeeding. BUT it's not. Its something that both the mother and baby have to LEARN. Take my daughter for example. When she was born she didn't know how to suck properly. She couldn't get a lot of milk out with the way she was trying to suck. She had to be taught how to suck. They may not have had any books to help people out with parenting back then, but I can guarantee you that people did seek the advice of others. While I haven't spent a lot of time going though books, I have spent a fair amount of time seeking the advice of family and friends. Some issues are not as easy to instinctively know how to deal with as others. How lucky you are to know all the answers to your childrens problems and how to deal with their behaviors.
