My doc gave it to me in the form of Wellbutrin so the insurance would pay. She said it is a type b drug and pregnant women can take it all throughout their pregnancy. Hope this helps! Dear Sabrina, Talk with your doctor about this as there are different indications for each person and during pregnancy, no one Rx is right for everyone. Due to fluctuations in hydration, serum levels need to be monitored as pregnancy progresses to maintain the proper therapeutic dosage. Here is a link to http://www.pregnancyanddepression.com/ which details many studies of medications during pregnancy. The medication Zyban/Welbutrin is an atypical antidepressant, while it may be a category B drug, this means that it showed no birth defects in ANIMAL studies, BUT adequate studies with pregnant women are available, it is contraindicated in eating disorders, so think in terms of morning sickness for risk and people at risk for seizures. My suggestion is if you are planning for pregnancy, quite smoking before TTC, if you are taking any Rx or OTC for smoking cessation, do so before pregnancy if at all possible so you have one less risk to consider but in any event discuss this with your doctor. Therapy may last 2-3 months to be effective. All things to consider before TTC. Best Wishes, Marie
