Is it normal to not test for progesterone after first beta?

My doctor knows that I have had at least 2 miscarriages and it took 2 years to get pregnant again with a donor egg. I finally tested pregnant with a first beta of 266 and a progesterone level of 23 last Wednesday. I assumed that my progesterone level was being monitored with each beta test, which were on Friday, Monday, Wednesday. My numbers were wavering.

1st Beta: 12dp3dt = 266 Prog = 23 2nd Beta: 14dp3dt = 340 3rd Beta: 17dp3dt = 660 4th Beta: 19dp3dt = 668 Prog = 8

My doctor is concerned and scheduled an ultrasound on Tuesday to rule out an ectopic pregnancy.

He told me today, Thursday, to start taking progesterone injections. I am very surprised that my doctor was not monitoring progesterone with each test and now it is way down. Isn't this an oversight on the doctor's part? Shouldn't they have been testing progesterone with each beta, because of my past miscarriages and since I am on a natural cycle?

Would I lose a pregnancy that is normal because of dropping progesterone levels?

Doctors please respond with your thoughts or anyone else who has an opinion.
