Re: Sleep deprivation: babywise stuff.From: aak (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 3 Jul 2003 16:54:08 -0500 (CDT)
Most of the problems with Babywise occur because people don't use any common sense (ie, they watch the clock religiously and never waver from the schedule, even if the baby is obviously hungry). If you have two friends who swear by it, then I'm guessing you know the basic premise of it. We used it with my son (he's 9 months old now) and had great results. Despite dire predictions about Babywise causing Failure to Thrive syndrome and cautions that you *have* to feed on demand when breastfeeding, my son has always been off the charts for height and weight. He does extremely well with a routine. He knows what to expect as far as when it's time to eat and when it's time to sleep. He started sleeping 6 hours through the night at 5 weeks old, and he has *never* had any problems sleeping through since then. I know everyone has a different style of parenting, and I know that everyone will not want to use Babywise. The only reason I'm writing is to say that I strongly suggest reading the book yourself and drawing your own conclusions instead of relying on others' opinions (even my own). Good luck!
-- AAK PS- Although we loved Babywise, we did *not* like the follow up books for the older ages. So again, read it yourself and decide based on your own research.
