Re: Does Clomid Work?From: anonymous@obgyn.netWed, 2 Jul 2003 14:33:36 -0500 (CDT)
KIm, Yes clomid works for some women. The important thing about clomid is to make sure that it works for you. This means you should be monitored through ultrasound or bloodtests to make sure that you are ovulating on it. It tends to work within 3-4 months once you receive the correct dose that makes you ovulate. If it doesn't work in this time period then it is time to move on to other drugs. You also should receive estrogen (estrace)to counteract the lining thining effects of clomid (women who take estrace also suffer a lower miscarriage rate than those who take clomid alone) - my RE gives clomid days 3-7 then estrace from days 8-12 with an ultrasound on day 11 to check folicle and lining development. You should also have all the standard infertility tests (ie. blood tests, sperm test, HSG etc.) since it makes no sense to waste time on Clomid if you have other problems. Even though you have a child you should still have these tests. I understand how hard secondary infertility is as I have struggled with it for the last 6 years but the odds are that you will succeed. Your kids may have a greater age difference but no one knows what the best age difference is anyway. Good Luck, Nancy
