I was perfectly healthy, gained a healhty >amount of weight, never smoked in my life, and was feeling great, so >there was no way to diagnose that I was losing fluid (aka >oligohydramnios) other than ultrasound. > >Best wishes to you, > >-- >Katya (not a doctor, just a biochemist) > i agree with katya on all she said about checking placenta, ect. sometimes a u/s can find conditions that warrant extra care such as a low lying placenta ect, that you would want to know about to possibly restrict certain activity. also, i can't imagine a dr. not doing an anatomical scan to make sure everything is there and accounted for. there are deformities that you NEED to know about prior to delivery so the baby will be able to be treated as quick as possible, like a diaphragmatic hernia. these things are rare, but the success of treatment depends on getting the baby stabilized right away and they only way to do that is to know in advance. my dr is pretty conservative with u/s and didn't do one until 20 wks and then again at about 36 wks. i think you should at least discuss an anatomy scan with her. it's at least nice to know your baby is happy and healthy. good luck!
