Re: 1st IUI failed, and have lost all hopeFrom: Katya (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 30 Jun 2003 20:04:28 -0500 (CDT)
Dear anonymous, I am sorry that you are having fertility problems. Is your doctor sure that the termination did not scar your uterus? If so, please consider that 25% of regular pregnancies end in a miscarriage, for for an IUI to be unsuccessful does not mean anything. The fact that you were pregnant by your husband before is a great source of hope, I think. As a biochemist, I am amazed that our body takes 2 cells and converts them into a human being with a 75% success rate! It can take a graduate student 9 months to work out a single biochemical reaction... Since you are 25 and have many fertile years ahead of you, I would actually stop fertility treatments for a couple of years. Your husband's sperm and your body are not perfect, but they did the job once, and given a chance will do it again. Try to be happy and content - that will send a signal to your body that you are ready to have a baby. If you are not pregnant in 2 years, go back to the doctor and expect to try IUI several times before it actually works. Just remember - time is on YOUR side, and it is very likely that you will have a baby of your own in a couple of years or even sooner! Best wishes,
-- Katya (not a doctor, just a biochemist)
