21 wks pregnant--how concerned should I be about infection?From: MM (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 29 Jun 2003 07:59:27 -0500 (CDT)
I lost my last IVF pregnancy to PPROM at 17 wks for unknown reasons. Doctors have said maybe some degree of cervical incomp. or subclinical infection (I tested neg for GBS at the time). For this reason, we are taking alot of precaution in our current pregnancy--weekly transvag. ultrasounds, digital checks, etc. Our last peris seemed to be concerned about infection (BV) and recommended to get checked every other week for infection. Since my insurance did not cover them, I had to see a new group and am only being co managed by an OB and see the tech at the high risk place once a wk for ultrasounds. My OB seems to dismiss infection checks at all because "if it is asymptomatic, it does not need treated". 1. Should I be requesting BV checks or other checks for infection (1A. also he is doing digital exams--if I have an infection, could this push infection up the cervix?) and 2. if so, how do I present this to a doctor whose ideology seems different? Thank you in advance for your response.
