Re: breastfeeding 4.5 month old with new, lazy suck on one sideFrom: Rachael (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 12 Jun 2003 17:25:00 -0500 (CDT)
My daughter did the same thing. LIked the left side early on because it was slower, then when she got bigger almost refused to nurse from the left. She continued to do this until I weaned her at 13 months, and after I stopped, only my right breast got engorged. As long as your daughter is gaining weight okay (which she will, the right breast will step up production to keep up with her) it will be fine, and you might be a little lopsided, but it should be okay. Women with one breast are able to successfully breastfeed. I always offered my baby the left breast first, so it would not completely dry up. Even if she only nursed for 2-3 minutes on that side, I figured that would keep the milk going a little bit. Good luck!
