Dear Doctor, I am on my fourth pregnancy -- 8 weeks today. Wed. night I experienced a minute amount of brown spotting -- so the doc gave me an u/s the next day which was great. It showed the heartbeat and the baby to be doing very well...

What is the brown spotting usually attributed to? It had been four days since my husband and I last had intercourse....so I don't think it was that.

I have three children, 10, 3, and 2.

Also...do my chances of anything going wrong drop significantly once a strong heartbeat is detected and everything is on target?
