For Kelly Re: -Please Read. Re: Docs--Immunize or Not?-Answer Not In ArchivesFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netSat, 31 May 2003 14:31:09 -0500 (CDT)
Here is some different info for you Kelly. I am approx 10 weeks pregnant and I have severe allergic reactions to almost anything submitted in the form of an injection. A result of which is that I am terrified to have any child of mine at a young age receive any shot that might cause a life threatening reaction. When I received my DPT shot as a young child I was incapacitated for over a week. Later on the doctor eliminated the Diptheria and the Pertussis (sp?) shots and only applied the tetanus shot. I could not use my arm for a week and I had a fever of 104 for a week. This was when I was ten. If I had received this shot at a very young age I would have been in the hospital. Most vaccines contain maltodextrin, carrageenan, and other carrier agents that I am allergic to. Unfortunately this also goes for IV fluid. I guess Ibetter not have any complications in the hospital. Many doctors these days rely on the medicine and not the patient history. I have encountered some great doctors but most do not understand when it comes to uncommon reactions to items they believe are infallible.
